ISTJs are accountable and dependable, often appearing to be in control of their environment. ISTJs are perfectionists and tend to have a keen eye for detail, making them excellent planners and organizers. This can sometimes be a bit of a problem as ISTJs sometimes get so wrapped up in the details that they miss the big picture.
The age at which an ISTJ develops a preference for their dominant function has been found to be between the ages of 15 and 19. One study by Linda Goodman found that while ISTJs are usually self-aware of their strengths and weaknesses at an early age, it is not until the age of 19 that they become aware of the other function that they use to balance their dominant function.
ISTJs are often very observant and focused on details that many other types tend to overlook. They are keen observers of how other people work and operate, and will often gather lots of information about a person before they make a decision about whether or not they will actually work well with them.
