The Roles of Director and Producer in Star Wars: The Force Awakens
The Force Awakens is the first Star Wars movie to be produced and directed by a woman. Yeah! I thought that was cool. I wouldn't go so far as to say that this is a watershed moment in Hollywood, but come on, it's pretty cool when a woman takes the reins of a major motion picture, especially in a genre that's traditionally been dominated by men.
This is the second Star Wars movie in a row to feature a female director in charge. Earlier in the year we had Elizabeth Banks direct, star in and write the screenplay for the first "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," which is due in theaters in December 2016.
Rian Johnson is a very talented writer/director who was hired by Lucasfilm to write the screenplay for The Force Awakens. He previously wrote "Looper" back in 2012, which was a very good movie that was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
Irvin Kershner (born Isadore Kershner; April 29, 1923 – November 27, 2010) was an American actor and director of film and television. He gained notice early in his career as a filmmaker for directing quirky, independent films, later moving on to films such as The Empire Strikes Back, the James Bond adaptation Never Say Never Again, and RoboCop 2.
