The 6-foot-10 Adebayo declared for the 2018 NBA Draft after his freshman season at Kentucky. He was one of the top recruits for the Wildcats in the 2017 recruiting class.
Adebayo was named to the 2018 SEC All-Freshman Team by the media. He averaged 6.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game during his freshman year. The following year, he increased his scoring average to 15.1 points per game while also increasing his rebounds to 6.9 per game. He was named SEC Freshman of the Year by the conference's coaches in 2018.
Adebayo also played in the 2018 McDonald's All-American Game. He led the Eastern Conference with 17 points and 11 rebounds in the win over the West.
Adebayo declared for the 2019 NBA Draft, but withdrew in order to fulfill his obligations in the University of Kentucky's NCAA Tournament run. The Wildcats advanced to the Final Four but lost to Michigan State in the national championship game.
