Reddick grew up in a low-crime neighborhood in Richmond, California, where he was raised by his mother. He never got into trouble at school other than writing graffiti on the walls of his classrooms, he says. He didn’t test well, but he was good at math.
After high school, his mother helped him get into the Navy. He worked for a short time in computers and then found a job in the Navy’s missile systems program, despite his lack of technical skills.
Then he was transferred to an office job at the Navy’s Enterprise Logistics Office in San Diego, where he met several people with high-tech jobs. They encouraged Reddick to try to get into the Information Systems Jobs at the Navy, which he did.
