Elluka Clockworker personality type is INTP, the most common personality type among programmers.
All of the programmers I’ve talked to who enjoy creating games have been INTPs, and I’ve always assumed that the reason for this is that they all really like to work alone and enjoy a tremendous sense of accomplishment when something works.
But is that the only reason they enjoy programming?
I’m probably not the first person to think of this, but it seems to me that INTPs are motivated by the same thing that motivates many creative types: the challenge of pushing their own boundaries.
This is why I think this personality type would enjoy making magic items, because it’s full of challenges. A big part of magic item creation is figuring out how something works, knowing all the different ways it could fail, and coming up with the most reliable way to achieve its effects. It’s highly satisfying to be able to say “I made this magic item, and I don’t know how the mechanisms work, but it works!”
