She is a Chinese actress and singer.
Her father Nam Hong was an official at the Tung-lin temple in Shanghai. When Nam Xi was a child, she moved to a new home where the family lived in the Dong-Feng district of Changsha, Hunan province. Under the influence of her father and her grandmother, Nam Xi started to learn the art of kung fu. She learned judo and showed promise as a dancer. Nam Xi's father bought her a few books on acting and she started to study drama. She began performing in local plays and by the time she was 15, she was a leading lady in plays and musicals. She also studied in a dance school. Nam Xi graduated from the Changsha University of Science and Technology with a degree in electrical engineering. She later studied at the Shanghai Drama Academy from which she graduated with a diploma in acting.
