He also toured Europe as a solo performer. He's considered to be the best singer of Lupicinio Rodrigues songs. He recorded in 1972 the album Jamelão Interpreta Lupicinio. De 1949 até 2006, Jamelão foi intérprete de samba-enredo na Mangueira, sendo voz principal a partir de 1952, quando sucedeu Xangô da Mangueira.
