The trust issue is critical for both bosses and employees. If you don’t trust your boss, you are not going to do your job very well. If you don’t trust your employees, you are not going to inspire them to do their job well. Trust can be earned, but it is difficult to earn.
Most of us, if not all of us, have some history of poor leadership in our pasts. Sometimes that means that we are not naturally inclined to trust our boss or employees, but often it means that we don’t trust ourselves. We are afraid of being punished if others discover what we are thinking or feeling.
