Fictional characters created by writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons for the comic book "Miracleman" (1987–1989), and were characters in the "Miracleman" stories published in "Swamp Thing" (1982–1987). They all received their own title, Miracleman, with Moore as writer and Gibbons as artist.
In March 1991, Marvel Comics launched a new series, "Miracleman", written by Peter B. Gillis and drawn by Pat Olliffe. The new Miracleman was a red-headed villain from Earth, with a hatred of his home planet. He was a more original character, developed from a sketch that had been submitted by then-Marvel editor Tom DeFalco for a future "X-Men" story. The "X-Men" version of Miracleman had already been used by Marvel as a villain, and DeFalco felt that it was too similar to the original version of Miracleman. In addition, he felt that the character needed a red-headed nemesis.
