I’m very much like Barbara Corcoran. I’m very much an entrepreneur. I’m very much about making things happen. My greatest weakness is that I’m very undisciplined. I want to do it all.

BARBARA CORCORAN: Not only am I an entrepreneur, I’m a doer. I don’t want to be somebody who sits around and waits for other people to make me happy.

I was born in Ohio. My father was in the army, so we moved all around the country. I thought I was going to be a dancer when I was little, so I got lessons in ballet and tap dance and modern dance. But then when I was eight or nine my father decided he wanted to stay in the army and so we moved back to the Midwest, and we lived in Kentucky and Ohio and Indiana and Illinois and Kansas and Missouri and South Dakota and North Dakota and Montana and Wyoming and Idaho and Utah and Michigan and Wisconsin, and we moved around a lot.

Barbara Ann Corcoran (born March 10, 1949) is an American businesswoman, investor, speaker, consultant, syndicated columnist, author, and television personality. She began her career in the 1970s with real estate, then became a television personality as a "Shark" investor on ABC's Shark Tank. She graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas College with a degree in education in 1971. After graduation, she taught school for a year, but soon moved on working various jobs including a side job renting apartments in New York City. She wanted to be her own boss, and in 1973 co-founded a real estate business called The Corcoran-Simonè with her boyfriend, who contributed a $1,000 loan (approximately $5,685.56, inflation-adjusted, 2018). When she split from her boyfriend seven years later, she formed her own firm, The Corcoran Group. In the mid-1970s she also began publishing The Corcoran Report covering real estate data trends in New York City.
