Bruno Formiga is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Roberto Cyborg. He was also a two-time ADCC World Champion at the brown belt level. He won his first ADCC title in 2003, defeating Claudio Calasans. He was also a 2x ADCC Trials Champion at the brown belt level. He was a part of the team that won the gold medal in the 2007 Pan American Championships and the 2008 European championships.
He also competed in Grappling at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, where he defeated Jorge Pereira of Brazil in the opening round of the Bantamweight (57 kg) division, before losing via armbar to Kwon Young-soo of South Korea in the quarterfinals.
He represented Brazil at the 2011 IBJJF World Championships and became a double gold medalist by winning the light-featherweight and absolute divisions. Bruno Formiga made it to the finals of the open weight division but lost to one of his training partners, Leandro Lo.
