This is only because the "independent" card is not really "independent" in terms of its description. It's just that the INFP uses this card to describe the type of person he/she is (they are "independent") while the Ti-user uses it to describe his/her personality type (INTPs are independent). In the case of an INTP, he tends to be independent in a very particular way. He has a mind that works differently from other people's, and due to that fact, he is not bound by rules. He is able to think in ways that others find alien and unusual. He has a very strong sense of independence and a strong desire to be left alone. He doesn't want to be a part of a group, but he doesn't want to be an outsider either. He wants to be a part of a group with his own personal rules and his own personal methods for how to get things done.
