The original Mandy Mouse was created by Walt Disney himself to be a female version of Mickey Mouse. She was originally conceived as a little girl, but Walt wanted her to be a little girl that looked like a little boy. Walt originally wanted her to wear a boy’s shirt with a little girl skirt. After many hours of work, Walt finally decided on Mandy Mouse. Her name was taken from the famous poem “The Night Before Christmas”.
A few months later, Walt decided that Mandy needed to have multiple personalities. There was the original Mandy Mouse, the goody two shoes Mandy Mouse, the sassy Mandy Mouse, and even the moody Mandy Mouse. Walt was very particular about the personalities he wanted Mandy to have. He would draw an entire personality sketch of each one, then he would give the sketches to animators who would then draw them into the cartoon.
