The real Isabel Briggs Myers, the mother of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, was born in Russia and came to America with her family at age seven. She lived in New York City for most of her life, was an active member of the New York Psychoanalytic Society, and was a graduate of Columbia University. Myers's daughter, Katharine Briggs, was the first woman to join the International Association for Type Enthusiasts (now known as Enneagram International), and later, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Foundation Board of Directors. Katharine Briggs also founded the Society for the Application of Psychological Type, now known as the Association for Psychological Type, which is an international organization for professionals who use the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.
The real Isabel Briggs Myers died in 1984. Katharine Briggs died in 2006.
