I'm an INTP and haven't read the original novels, but I've seen the anime and read the manga and it's a different story. The manga is very much like the anime, but the anime is more like the novel. The novel isn't as "INTP" as the anime, but it has more of a "I'm not sure what to do here" feeling. I think the author was trying to make it more "realistic" and not so "formulaic" by making it more like the anime, but I'm still hoping to get a hold of the original novels at some point. Also, if anyone knows of any good resources, please tell me!
The anime is pretty much canon. There are some differences between the anime and the novels, but for the most part the novels are pretty accurate. The anime is also much more realistic in terms of what you can expect to happen. The novel takes place in Old Tokyo, while the anime takes place in New Tokyo. Still, you can expect to have both Japanese schools AND Japanese schools in Tokyo in the novels.
