She grew up in the midwest, in a time before Facebook or Instagram or Snapchat, and she was the only child in the family. As she describes it, she was always the person my parents would go to when they had something to ask. Her parents would come to her (or she’d go to them) with all sorts of questions about their careers or their hobbies or their health.
When I first met her, she was working on her doctorate at UCLA. She’s now on the faculty at UCSF School of Medicine, where she teaches students about functional systems neuroscience. She has published more than 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Neuroscience, Biological Psychiatry, and Neuropsychopharmacology. She holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University.

I’m an early adopter of the new technology. I used to have this amazing word processor on my Macintosh that made my writing look like it was written by some kind of wizard. Then Microsoft Office came out.
