Dr. Lygia da Veiga Pereira graduated in physics, but has always been interested in genetic engineering. Today, Lygia is a researcher, professor, head of the National Embryonic Stem Cell Laboratory (LaNCE) and head of the Department of Genetics and Evolutionary Biology at the University of São Paulo.
Lygia was part of the group that created the first transgenic mouse in the country, producing models for the study of genetic diseases, such as Marfan Syndrome. In addition, his research on stem cell extraction and multiplication put Brazil on the international radar. It has a strong role in scientific dissemination, as it is always invited for interviews and debates on cloning, genetic engineering and the use of stem cells.
