    W. H. Auden personality type is ISFJ, but it is also quite possible that his childhood had been quite traumatic and that he had used this to cope with it. He had been a very lonely child, spending much of his time alone reading and writing poetry. He was interested in the occult and was fascinated by the world of fairy tales and stories. His mother, who was a realist and practical person, had a great effect on his thinking. She believed that there was a good side to everything and encouraged him to think positively. She also encouraged him to be open-minded and to learn from everyone, even those with whom he disagreed.

In terms of his childhood he was a quiet and shy boy who was very sensitive and easily hurt. He did not have many friends, but he had a very strong relationship with his sister, Ursula, who was two years older than him. They shared a lot of experiences together, and although she was a little bossy with him he admired her independence and courage, which she had demonstrated in many ways. He believed that if he could just learn to be more independent himself then he would be able to get out of the shell of shyness that had prevented him from making friends.
