Lam began her career in the private sector in 1995 in Hong Kong. She then moved to London to work for HSBC Bank in finance and human resources for four years. She then moved to Singapore in 2002 to work in satellite communications for Thomson, where she was promoted to vice president of the Asia Pacific region.
