Gregori Aleksandrovich Margulis (Russian: Григорий Александрович Маргулис), born February 24, 1946 in Moscow, is a Russian mathematician known for his extensive work on discrete subgroups of Lie groups, and the introduction of methods from ergodic theory in diophantic approximation. He received the Fields Medal in 1978 and the Abel Prize in 2020.
