“My dad worked at the BBC in the 1960s, and at the time it was a very different place. My dad had to report on the news which used to be a mainstay of British life – an absolute staple – and his job was to be the voice of authority in the newsroom.
“He started off in radio, but then just fell in love with television, and then eventually got his own show. He would take me to the studio when I was a kid, and I would ask him what he does.
“He would tell me he’s the voice of authority, and that he’s going to make a video out of it. He would then tell me how he would present the news. He would get his script out and read it out, and it would be this very authoritative voice telling you what was happening.
“So that was my first introduction to presenting news. That was when I used to watch the news with my dad. I remember thinking to myself, ‘I want to do that – I want to be that voice.'”
