Mikhail Kalashnikov is a Russian engineer and gun designer. He was born on March 25, 1919. He is one of the most famous Russian inventors and the father of the modern assault rifle. Kalashnikov was born in 1919 in the town of Melitopol, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (currently known as Zaporozhye, Ukraine).
Mikhail Kalashnikov was a part of the Soviet army and later the Soviet Red Army. He was also inspired by his father, Vasily, who was a gunsmith and excelled in creating guns and rifles for hunting and sports. Mikhail Kalashnikov received his education in the Machine Tool Design department at the Moscow Aviation Institute (today known as “Energetics of Moscow State University of Railway Engineering”). He continued his education at the Tula Military Mechanical Institute (today known as “Tula State University”). After graduation, Mikhail Kalashnikov was sent to work in the “Tula Machine Tool Plant” (today known as “Tula Machine Tool Plant”). Mikhail Kalashnikov invented the AK-47 assault rifle in 1947.
Mikhail Timofeyevich Kalashnikov (10 November 1919 – 23 December 2013) was a Russian Lieutenant-General, inventor, military engineer, writer and small arms designer. He is most famous for developing the AK-47 assault rifle and its improvements, the AKM and AK-74, as well as the PK machine gun and RPK light machine gun. Kalashnikov was, according to himself, a self-taught tinkerer who combined innate mechanical skills with the study of weaponry to design arms that achieved battlefield ubiquity. Even though Kalashnikov felt sorrow at the weapons' uncontrolled distribution, he took pride in his inventions and in their reputation for reliability, emphasizing that his rifle is "a weapon of defense" and "not a weapon for offense".
