Alexander "Sasha" Theodore Shulgin was an American biochemist, psychopharmacologist, and author. He is perhaps best recognized for his role in introducing MDMA to the psychopharmaceutical community in the late 1970s, for which he later became known as the "Godfather of Ecstasy" in several circles. Over the course of his career, Dr. Shulgin continued to study and develop new serotonergic psychedelic drugs, and openly published information regarding his discovery, synthesis and personal bioassay of more than 230 novel psychoactive compounds.
