The book is called The Man Who Lied to His Laptop: The Story of a Search for Truth and the Digital Revolution in Science by Ben Barkow. This is a really well written book that follows the life and times of the late Dr. Donald Eigler, a neuroscientist at UCLA (and also one of the founding members of SRI International).
The book begins as Dr. Eigler arrives at UCLA and takes up his position as a professor of psychology and neurobiology. He is immediately intrigued by the fact that synapses don’t work like everyone thought they did (he was one of the first people to propose this).
