    Pope John XII was born around the year 673 in Rome, Italy. His birth name was John Zephyrinus, but he later took the name of the pope who had recently died. He was educated in Rome before being sent to Constantinople, where he studied law. He was ordained in 686, and spent most of his career in the Byzantine Empire. He served as both a diplomat and a military leader, and was eventually promoted to the position of Patriarch of Constantinople. After being made Patriarch in 705, he was elected Pope in 707.

    After being elected Pope in 707, he began an aggressive campaign of expansion for the Roman Catholic Church. He re-conquered Sicily in 711, and invaded Dalmatia in 713.

    Gave land to a mistress, murdered several people, and was killed by a man who caught him in bed with his wife.
