History: Emilio Aguinaldo was born in Manila during the 1860s. At that time, Manila was controlled by the Spanish. After the Spanish were defeated in the Spanish American War, control of Manila was transferred to the United States. In 1895 Emilio Aguinaldo was imprisoned for being a member of the secret society the Sons of Osotoburu. He was released from prison in 1896 when his father Frank Aguinaldo requested a pardon to allow Emilio to attend a school for boys established by the American Board of Missions. In 1900 Emilio Aguinaldo graduated from that school and was placed to teach history at a school for boys established by the American Board of Missions. In 1899 Emilio Aguinaldo met his wife, who was also a teacher at this same school.
