Alzira Vargas do Amaral Peixoto (São Borja, November 22, 1914 - Rio de Janeiro, January 26, 1992), was the daughter of Getúlio Vargas and Darci Vargas. He was head of the Civil Office of the Presidency of the Republic during his father's government, a role he assumed when he was in the last year of the Faculty of Law of Rio de Janeiro. She also worked as an English librarian and interpreter. Alzira Vargas in the portrait under the custody of the National Archives (Brazil).
She was married to Ernani do Amaral Peixoto, who was a federal interventionist in Rio de Janeiro from 1937 to 1939. In 1955, Amaral Peixoto was appointed ambassador to the United States. The couple lived in the United States from 1939 to 1942 and from 1956 to 1959, during which Amaral Peixoto served as Brazil's ambassador to Washington.
