    François Vatel (1631 – 24 April 1671) was a French chef, steward, and butler. He was the maître d'hôtel of Nicolas Fouquet and Prince Louis II de Bourbon-Condé. He was most famous for committing suicide after serving a meal to King Louis XIV and his guests that were not up to standards.
