“This is the most vital of the extroverted personalities,” according to Jung, “and it is true that it is the most definitely extroverted of all the types. For the Si function alone can maintain itself in deep sleep, while the other functions are always on the alert. The feeling type is the only one who can attain great heights in creative activity or in intellectual capacity without any need of sleep. But this is possible only because his powers of perception are so keen, so active, so alert, so clearly directed, that they compensate for all the rest; and the feeling type is the most dominant of all types. He does not use his energy to work out his unconscious, but to ‘live in the immediate present’; he is not concerned with future or past. His memory is not an instrument for acquiring knowledge; on the contrary, it serves to confirm what he already knows; it preserves his impressions, his movements, his actions; it preserves age after age of personal history.

Publius Clodius Pulcher (93 – 52 BC) was a populist Roman politician and street agitator during the time of the First Triumvirate. One of the most colourful personalities of his era, Clodius was descended from the aristocratic Claudian gens, one of Rome's oldest and noblest patrician families, but he contrived to be adopted by an obscure plebeian, so that he could be elected tribune of the plebs.
