What is the personality type of St Benedict of Nursia? Which MBTI personality type best fits? Personality type for St Benedict of Nursia from Christianity and what is the personality traits.
St Benedict of Nursia personality type is INTJ, and the path of the Enneagram and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) would agree. He is, interestingly enough, also a true Benedictine monk. I’ve been studying the Enneagram and the Myers-Briggs for about 10 years, and while I don’t have a definitive answer, I do have a lot to say about the difference between these systems.
I do not believe that the Enneagram and Myers-Briggs are directly comparable.
First, the Enneagram is a very specific system. It is a Christian one, but it is a path that can be followed by any religion or spirituality. It has a set of rules that it follows, and a set of theories that explain how this all works. The Myers-Briggs is a fairly straightforward personality assessment, and it does not assert that there is a “path to God” or a path to spiritual enlightenment. In this case, I think it can be helpful to look at what people in these systems identify themselves as, and what the system itself claims to be good for.
Benedict of Nursia (who lived from c.March 2, 480 – c.March 21, 547 AD) was a late Antique Christian monastic who is renowned for being the founder of the Benedictine congregation. St Benedict founded 12 communities for monks at Subiaco in Italy, before founding the monastery at Monte Cassino in southern Italy. The Benedictine Order emerged following St Benedict's death as a confederation of autonomous congregations
St Benedict's magnum opus, the Rule of St Benedict, contains an extensive set of rules for his monks to follow. Heavily influenced by the writings of St John Cassian, the Rule also reflects an influence from strong the Rule of the Master.
The main source of information outside of the Benedictine Rule is derived from Pope St Gregory I's Dialogues, which is hagiographic in nature.
