Here’s the point, Mappy is an idealist. He’s so idealistic that he’s detached from reality, but he’s very goal-oriented. He wants to help people in need, but he doesn’t want to get involved in their problems. He’s very smart, but he doesn’t care about other people’s looks. He’s a good person, but he’s not a great parent or a great lover or a great husband or any of those things.
Because Mappy is so disconnected from reality, he has many false starts in life. He has a lot of failure experiences, and he has to learn them all over again when they happen in his new job. He gets frustrated because he keeps failing to fulfill his goal of helping people.
His false starts are why there are a lot of role models like him in our society. We don’t have enough role models like Mappy to look up to because we don’t have enough failures in our own lives.
