Carlos Ballarta was born in 1953 in Mexico City. He is often called the Mexican Einstein. He was interested in physics since his childhood, but not in math. He left school at 16 to study physics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) where he earned his bachelor’s degree in physics in 1974. After graduation he went to work at the National Autonomous University of Mexico’s Physics Institute where he worked until his death in 1997.
His publications include three books (he also co-authored two more), numerous articles, and several papers published in professional journals like the Journal of High Energy Physics. He also served on the editorial board of the Journal of High Energy Physics.
He is known for his work on the structure of the universe, especially on the nature of dark energy and dark matter.
