"I talked about this with Shinbo-san, but the first time I saw Kizumonogatari was in Japan. It was before I had started directing it (the first movie). I was like, 'this is scary.' The intensity of the film was really high, and I really liked it."
Shinbo also directed the first two movies in the series.
"The first time I met Shinbo-san, he said, 'I'm directing this.'" Kuroiwa explained. "I was like, 'What? The first time I saw the film was at that time. It's so scary.'"
