In Pokémon Red and Blue, Professor Oak describes Slowpoke as a "very rare" Pokémon that lives in a cave under Mt. Moon. It is the only Pokémon that can avoid being captured by a Poké Ball if it is holding a King's Rock. In Yellow, Slowpoke can be found in the same cave, though only as a Jr. Trainer. In this game, it is also level 5, as opposed to level 15 in R/B/Y.
In Pokémon Yellow, the Slowpoke at Mt. Moon uses Water Gun and Tackle to attack the player. The Pokédex erroneously states that Slowpoke can absorb energy from seawater and then use it as energy for its attacks. Slowpoke also appears in the Pokéathlon.

In Pokémon Gold and Silver, Slowpoke can be found inside the S.S.
Slowbro has lost the capability to feel pain due to the Shellder's poison. While typically lazy and unintelligent, Slowbro apparently becomes inspired when the Shellder bites down on its tail. While it is capable of unleashing powerful psychic attacks, Slowbro is typically rather peaceful and usually prefers not to fight. Because it can no longer fish using its tail, it instead swims to catch its prey and allows the Shellder to feed on its leftover scraps. Slowbro tends to live near ponds, lakes, and seashores.
