The founder of the Animation Creators Association (ACA), Gureo was inspired to form the association because he believed that the anime industry was lacking in creativity and individuality. He began his career at Studio Junio (which was founded by his wife's brother) as an assistant director for commercials and music videos, and eventually became the animation director of the anime series "Ojamajo Doremi" (created by Studio Junio). Afterwards, he founded Studio Gureo with his wife.
Gureo's productions include "Ojamajo Doremi", "Asobi ni Ikuyo", "Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo" and "Puchim@s".
In 2002, Gureo Haijima was a founding member of the Animation Creators Association (ACA) along with Sayaka Aoki, Toshiyuki Yahagi, and Shun Nishime. The ACA organized a "Creation Day" where animators from all over Japan came together to create short animated films.
