Li Rong was born on 4 February 2086 in Beijing, China. He spent his childhood in Beijing with his parents until he was fifteen, when he left to study in the United States. He studied at Evergreen State College and graduated with a degree in English Literature with a minor in Psychology. He then moved back to Beijing and had a job in a stock brokerage firm while he finished his master's degree at the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. He finished his Master's degree in Management Information Systems in 2099 and began to work as a programmer at a software firm. During this time, he met another ESTJ, Li Ruo, who was also fascinated by Artificial Intelligence, and the two became close friends.

In 2106, Li Rong was working at the software firm when he heard the news of World War III. He was deeply disturbed by the news and decided that he must do something about it.
