INTPs make up about 2-3% of the population. (I measured the proportion of INTPs among people who work in STEM fields by looking at the National Science Foundation’s Survey of Earned Doctorates and the American Psychological Association’s Annual Report on Psychological Science and conducted an online survey on Reddit.) The proportion of INTPs in the U.S. is higher than that – around 5 – but it’s hard to tell for sure.
I compared my results to a recent study that used questionnaires and found that INTPs were overrepresented across a variety of fields. So, I went to the American Psychological Association’s profile pages for psychologists, social workers, and counselors to see if I could find any data about how common the personality type is among those who work in those fields.
My first task was to figure out what personality type each psychologist, social worker and counselor was.
