Exar Kun personality type is ENTJ, and he's a dictator. However, the Exar Kun personality is just another facet of the same person. He is a man who has been driven by a profound need for power from an early age. His father's death, a battle with a rival gang, a series of betrayals and a lot of other things were all reasons why he wanted to become a dictator after he grew up.
I believe that all the Exar Kun personality facets are still contained in him, but they have been suppressed until now. Coming back to life and becoming a dictator, he's shown that he's not any less ruthless than he was when he was still Exar Kun.
So, when you think about it, I can't say that Exar Kun was defeated by the Jedi. The Exar Kun personality is still in the galaxy and in the form of Vader. It's still there and it's still the reason why he turned to the dark side.
