Philip Jessup personality type is INTP, and that’s what I’d say the movie is about. So we’re all on the same page, no?
The question of whether we’re all on the same page is what I find fascinating about this movie. It’s a very self-aware film, with a sense of humor and a knowledge of how it all works. For instance, there’s a sequence near the beginning of the movie where Michael Fassbender’s character, a physicist, is giving a lecture on quantum mechanics. And he talks about two particles with identical properties that are initially in a state of entanglement, but then they become decoherent. This is a very accurate description of what happens when quantum entanglement is created between two particles.
I was thinking about the fact that he says the physicists who created this theory were ideologically driven to find a way to prove it. And I thought, if you had been told as a kid that you had to find a way to prove something to prove your maturity as a scientist, you would have been driven to do so.
