I’m an introvert. I prefer my own company, and I’m not very good at small talk. When I was younger, I used to find it hard to talk to people in real life, especially when it came to my friends. I knew that I didn’t like small talk, but I didn’t realize how much until it came time for me to go to college.
It was hard for me to make friends in college, so I made a pact with myself to do whatever it took to make friends. It was difficult. People didn’t seem to want to talk to me, so I got the idea that I had to be interesting or funny or whatever. If people just sat there looking at me while I talked about my life, then they must have been bored, so I tried talking about things that were interesting to me. It was hard, but I did it.
