Pudu is one of the most famous pet dogs in the world, and his fame has spread around the world. He may be famous, but he is certainly not famous for his looks. He is covered in matted fur with a scruffy coat that resembles the pelt of an old bear. Pudu has a furry face with a long snout and large eyes. He has a thick beard that is often longer than his body.

Pudu was born in 1963 in Taiwan. He was the runt of the litter, so he had to work twice as hard to grow to his full potential. He was the last male Chihuahua litter that was born, and his mother eventually had him killed, believing she would eventually have puppies. She thought that he wasn’t good enough to live outside of her home, and she didn’t want him to suffer any indignities like that.

The pudus are two species of South American deer from the genus Pudu, and are the world's smallest deer. The name is a loanword from Mapudungun, the language of the indigenous Mapuche people of central Chile and south-western Argentina. The two species of pudus are the northern pudu from Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, and the southern pudu from southern Chile and south-western Argentina. Pudus range in size from 32 to 44 centimeters tall, and up to 85 centimeters long. The southern pudu is currently classified as near threatened, while the northern pudu is classified as Data Deficient in the IUCN Red List.
