Proto-punk personality type is ISTP, which may be associated with the sociopathic, anti-authoritarian ideals espoused by many anarchists. Although ISTP is not a well-defined typological category, its core traits are expressed in both individuals who have been diagnosed as sociopaths, and those who have been labeled as anarchists.

The ISTP personality type is characterized by being the complete opposite of the well-defined MBTI personality type. ISTPs are outgoing, assertive, well-liked, and confident. They are often charismatic and have a natural ability to attract people toward their own way of thinking.

They are self-directed and enthusiastic about what they are doing. Because of this, they often appear to be more energized than other types. The ISTP personality type can be perceived as “loud” because of their outgoing nature.

ISTPs are curious and independent, and typically enjoy their own company. They enjoy being alone or with close friends, but typically not with people they do not know.

ISTPs are often described as “thrill seekers” due to their tendency to want to try new things. They are very good at climbing mountains, running, skiing, biking, etc.

Proto-punk (or protopunk) is the rock music played by garage bands from the 1960s to mid-1970s that foreshadowed the punk rock movement. The phrase is a retrospective label; the musicians involved were generally not originally associated with each other and came from a variety of backgrounds and styles; together they anticipated many of punk's musical and thematic attributes. Most musicians classified as proto-punk are rock performers of the 1960s and early-1970s, with garage rock/art rock bands the Velvet Underground, MC5 and the Stooges considered to be archetypal proto-punk artists, along with glam rock band the New York Dolls.
