He is willing to become a murderer and a traitor to his own family if he must. He knows that he has to do something to help his sister, Cersei, and the other people he cares about. He wants to protect them even if it means betraying his family and dying. He gets a couple of chances to save himself in the first book, but he ends up coming back anyway.
In the third book, one of his strongest characteristics is loyalty. He is loyal to his family and friends, even if they are not always good people. He supports Jon, despite that he is the King, and even though Jon is trying to kill him. He still trusts him and believes in him.

Tommen Baratheon is a fictional character in the A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy novels by American author George R. R. Martin, and its television adaptation Game of Thrones. Introduced in 1996's A Game of Thrones, Tommen Baratheon is the youngest son of Cersei Lannister from the kingdom of Westeros. He subsequently appeared in Martin's A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons. After the unexpected death of his brother Joffrey Baratheon, he is crowned King of the Seven Kingdoms, although he soon falls under the warring influences of his mother Cersei and wife Margaery. In the HBO television adaptation, Tommen Baratheon is portrayed by Callum Wharry from seasons one to two and by Dean-Charles Chapman from seasons four through six.
