The Verizon employee, identified by her Reddit handle "Verizon_lady," created a thread on the social news site to share that her employer was tracking her phone use.
"As a Verizon employee, you are required to turn over your cell phone, and any other devices you use for work, to your manager," she wrote. "This includes tracking ANY and ALL call time, text messages, and apps used. This data is used to determine your annual performance review."
And if you think this is a privacy violation, you should probably think again. She provided a screenshot of her data usage report, which indicated that she had attempted to call 911 three times.
"How many times did I call 9-1-1?" she wrote. "That's three times in one year. I was even more careful than most with my contract, which requires me to call the police if anything were to happen, but still. You know texting 911 isn't safe."
Verizon's response? Well, it's not exactly polite.
Verizon Communications Inc. is an American multinational telecommunications conglomerate and a corporate component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The company is headquartered at 1095 Avenue of the Americas in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, but is incorporated in Delaware. In 1984, the United States Department of Justice mandated AT&T Corporation to break up the Bell System into seven companies, each a Regional Bell Operating Company, commonly referred to as "Baby Bells". Bell Atlantic, one of the Baby Bells, came into existence the same year, consisting of the separate operating companies New Jersey Bell, Bell of Pennsylvania, Diamond State Telephone, and C&P Telephone, with a trading area from New Jersey to Virginia. As part of a rebranding of the Baby Bells in the mid-1990s, all of Bell Atlantic's operating companies assumed the holding company's name.
