Teach is known for his piratical raids on the coast of the Carolinas and Georgia and his raids on New York City. Teach led a band of pirates known as the Blackbeard Pirates which included Benjamin Hornigold, Calico Jack Rackham and Mary Read (the female pirate). Teach and Hornigold were the only ones to escape with their lives.
