Franz Boas personality type is ENTP, which could explain why he would not have been attracted to the right-wing ideology of Hitler's National Socialist Party, which was known for its anti-Semitic views.

The earliest written reference to Franz Boas comes from a letter dated October 22, 1894, in which he writes to his sister Hedwig, "I have just finished reading an interesting book by one Count Keyserling who describes the Aborigines of the New World as a pure type of Nordic man." (The book was The Conquest of the Useless: The Great War and the Nineteenth Century.)

This description of the "Aborigines of the New World as a pure type of Nordic man" is telling because it foreshadows Boas' theory of race.

In 1899, Boas wrote his first book, Race, Language and Culture, where he stated:

"The culture and race of a people do not depend upon the number of individuals who belong to them."

Boas' early views on race were influenced by his teacher, Karl Lumholtz. Lumholtz was a professor of anthropology at Columbia University.

Franz Uri Boas (1858–1942) was a German-born American anthropologist and a pioneer of modern anthropology who has been called the "Father of American Anthropology". His work is associated with the movements known as Historical Particularism and Cultural Relativism.
