They've been around for over 14 years and are still making emotional, thoughtful, and challenging music. How do you follow up an album like 'The Eroica'? And what does it sound like? The Dead Flag Blues finds the band expanding their sound and taking some new directions. But is it as good as their earlier work? And does it work as well as their earlier work? It's difficult to say. The album is certainly ambitious, and I see no reason why it shouldn't be. But it's not immediately accessible, which can be a problem for music of the highly intellectual and emotional variety. Yet, the songs are always catchy and well written. The band seem to have put more thought into the individual tracks, with more time spent on each one. The result is an album that feels more finished than the previous efforts. But it can also sound a bit awkward because of it.
