Amata Kihara first appeared in Chapter 1 of UQ Holder! as the younger sister of the the main protagonist, Takaishi Kihara. She is a student at the same school as Takaishi, but her class is on the other side of the school. Her first appearance comes in Chapter 1 after she had just arrived at the school. She had come to the UQ Holder! series to write an essay for Takaishi's class where she would have to write about her day. When Takaishi sees her, he thinks that she has come to his class to bully Takaishi, but he soon changes his mind after seeing her joyful personality and kindness. After Takaishi meets Amata for the first time, he is told by Karasawa that Amata has a habit of writing essays in the form of letters and cards and gives Takaishi his own copy of the essay Amata had written in her own style.
In Chapter 4, when Takaishi refuses to help Okaa-san with the cooking, Amata shows up and does it for him.
