In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Aegon is known as "the Young Dragon," a nickname which comes from the fact that he is very young, having only been on the Iron Throne for a year when he is initially introduced in the series. The Young Dragon's story begins with his sacking of DDXP at the end of A Game of Thrones, where he is present as a young, impetuous boy of 12 years old. The Young Dragon's personality is characterized as being very bold, full of swagger, and somewhat cocky. He puts on a brave face for the people, but is actually very skittish, afraid of any sort of real danger or danger he cannot see. He also has a great deal of self-confidence, to the extent that he believes himself to be invincible. Despite all this, he is very cowardly. When he begins to notice the other Targaryen children are afraid of him, he becomes angry and blames them for his own failings.
Aegon IV Targaryen, known as Aegon the Unworthy, was the eleventh Targaryen to sit the Iron Throne, and is considered to be one of the worst Targaryen kings. He sired numerous bastards, legitimizing them on his deathbed, an act that led to five Blackfyre Rebellions.
