Elsie Crimson personality type is ENTJ, he is aware of the division between him and his mother, but he is not quite sure of how to handle it. He is unsure why we feel the need to label people as ‘good’ or ‘bad’. And while he believes that his mother is a good person, he struggles to find the right words to describe her.
“Why are you so harsh on her?” he asked his therapist. “Is it because she’s my mother?”
After the session, I asked him why he thought he was so harsh on his mother. He responded that he was making a concerted effort to get her to talk about herself instead of about him.
A few days later, he told me that he had finally figured out what she was like and that she was stubborn and direct.
And then it hit me. He was referring to his mother as an ‘it’.
The ‘it’ in this case was not a living, breathing, feeling being. It was the image of his mother in his head. And it was the image of his mother in his head that he was trying to change.
